I am a writer, born in Helsinki but currently living in Jyväskylä, a small city in Central Finland. I have my academic background in literary and cultural studies. I defended my doctoral thesis in 2016. In the thesis, I study the reception of the author Sylvia Plath (1932–1963) on a discussion forum The Sylvia Plath Forum on the Internet, using critical discourse analysis as my main methodological tool. Both as a reader and as a writer, I’m interested in dialogue and the performative power of language in the (re)creation of identity and the world. Moreover, in my own writing I focus especially on such questions as marginality, obsession, and emulation.
My most recent novel Raivo (Rage) was published in 2018. My first novel Syvä pää (Deep end) came out in 2012, and the collection of short stories Keltaiset tyypit (Yellow people) in 2010. All three were published by Otava, one of the biggest publishing houses in Finland. Raivo was chosen as a nominee for the European Union Literary Prize in 2019.
In foreign rights matters, I’m represented by Elina Ahlbäck Literary Agency. The Bulgarian rights of Raivo have already been sold to Perseus.
